History and
The Sikh Review, an English Monthly
published by 'The Sikh Cultural Center, Calcutta', was founded in the summer of
1953 by a small group of dedicated scholars and devoute
Sikhs. Among them were: Sr. Raghbir Singh Bir, Capt. Bhag Singh, Mrs. Kuldip H. Singh (all deceased), later joined by Sr. Mohan
Singh Kalra, Dr. Hari Singh
Bindra, Dr. Trilochan
Singh, D.Litt., Bhai Sahib Sardar
Kapur Singh, ICS and Sr. Kulraj
Singh, IRS (also deceased). They all provided a labour
of LOVE.
2. Its sole mission is to disseminate
Gurbani philosophy and the spirit of
Sikhism., while developing interfaith understanding and promoting universal
moral values --- to sustain a dynamic society throughout the world.
3. Primarily targetted
at Sikhs of the present and the future generations, The Sikh Review, is meant
for general readers in philosophy, moral science, history and sociology, with
occasional forays into environmental issues and human rights.
4. Details can be
gleaned from previous issues, in particular the August (Anniversary) issues of
previous years.
5. In the year 1996/97 the office of the Sikh Review was
equipped with the Computer System with the assistance of Sr. Kulwant Singh, and
installed by Rajandeep Kaur, computer programmer and Sr. Harjeet Singh Lovely,
who assisted in the purchase of the equipment. The first issue after
computerization was published in October 1998.
6. In October1999, the Web Site of The
Sikh Review, was launched, fulfilling the desire of the Editor, Sr.Saran Singh(I.A.S.Rtd.)
and with the strenuous efforts of the Publisher, Sr.Narinderpal
Singh. The Site was conceived, designed and maintained by Sr.Kulwant
Singh .
